Mojmir Mrak is a full professor of international finance at the University of Ljubljana and a regular visiting professor at the post-graduate programs of the Università di Siena, Italy and of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria.

Main research fields of Professor Mojmir Mrak include capital flows, trade and project finance, development finance as well as various EU public finance issues. He is author, co-author and editor of numerous books, including Multinationals of the South (London, 1986) and Succession of States (Hague, 1999), Slovenia: from Yugoslavia to the European Union (Washington, 2004) and articles published in respective international journals. He serves also as a member of editorial boards and / or reviewer for several international journals. Last but not least, he has had consultancy assignments for international organizations, including OECD, European Commission, European Parliament, IBRD, EBRD, IFC, IADB, UNCTAD, UNIDO, as well as for several bilateral donors and governments in the region of South East Europe.

Professor Mojmir Mrak acted as the chief external debt negotiator of the Republic of Slovenia between 1992 and 1996. Since 1997, he has been chief advisor of the Slovenian Government on several EU financial issues. For example, between 2000 and 2002, he was responsible for negotiations about the financial package of Slovenia’s accession to the EU, and between 2003 and 2006 for the analytical part of the country’s negotiations about the 2007 – 2013 financial perspective of the EU. Between 2005 and 2009, he was a member of the “Knowledge for Growth” high level expert group formed by Commissioner Janez Potočnik and between 2007 and 2009 he was also an advisor of the DG Budget of the European Commission on the reform of the revenue side of the EU budget. In March 2010, professor Mrak was appointed in the panel of experts advising the Special Committee on the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis (CRIS) of the European Parliament.
