Prof.Dr. Nigel Holden

Nottingham Business School

Nigel Holden (Bsc Salford, 1969, MA London University 1981 and PhD Manchester Business School 1986) is Professor of Comparative and International Management at Nottingham Business School, UK (as of July 2004). Previously he held professorial appointments at Kassel International Management School in Germany (2002-2004), where he was dean from 2003-2004, and Copenhagen Business School in Denmark (1997-2001).  From 1988 to 1997 he was lecturer, then senior lecturer in international marketing at the Manchester School of Management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).

His fields of publication embrace cross-cultural management, knowledge management, international marketing, management change in Russia, marketing in Japan, and intercultural business communication.  He has co-authored management books on Japan (1994) and Russia (1997), and his Cross-cultural management: A knowledge management perspective (2002) was published in Russian in November 2005 and a Chinese language version will appear later this year. He is co-editor of a Special Issue of (a)  the Academy of Management Executive on the global transfer of management knowledge (2005) and (b) the Journal of Managerial Psychology on the absorption and application of management knowledge (2005).

He is visiting professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and the Technical University of Dresden. He has given over 100 invited lectures and keynote addresses to academic and professional audiences in several European countries, Japan, Taiwan, USA and Russia. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, he speaks German and Russian.
