TU Wien to become part of a consortium at EIT Manufacturing for European production

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) recently decided on a new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) for production in Europe. The "Digitization University" Vienna University of Technology is one of 50 partner organizations in 17 countries in the EIT Manufacturing KIC and in charge of setting up a so-called Co-Location Center (CLC) in Vienna.

European production has to cope with a multitude of challenges, as many production sites have moved to other parts of the world in the past. The new KIC EIT Manufacturing puts "Made by Europe" at the heart of its partnership to boost innovation in production in Europe. The aim is to promote networking at different levels in order to not only quickly adapt to the fourth industrial revolution - Industry 4.0 - but to lead the revolution.

"For the TU Wien as a technical university and innovation driver, the integration into a pan-European network of excellent research and industrial partners is very pleasing. Especially in a small country like ours, this network can have a positive effect on the domestic industry and thus on research and innovation, "says Prof. Johannes Fröhlich, Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at the Vienna University of Technology.
