Solar Energy – Reality and Vision for the Future of Mankind

Lecture on April 16, 2012 by Huang Ming (Nobelist of Right Livelyhood Award 2011)

Huang Ming won the Right Livelyhood Award 2011 because of his outstanding achievement in utilization of solar energy. Originally he is an “oil man” and knows the problems and limits of fossile energy. In the 1990ies he did research on solar energy in a small scientific workshop in Eastern China. Today his company “Himon Solar” has 9,000 members of staff and is one of the worldwide greatest producers of solar water heaters.

In China Huang Ming is called “Sun King”. He demonstrated that concentrating on renewable energy is possible, even for a newly industrializing country. Being a pioneer of solar energy he has built a “Sun Valley” in the Chinese province Dezhou. Solar collectors on almost all rooftops and street lighting based on solar energy is a common sight there. Huang is also getting involved in the range of politics. 2005 he enforced a law for renewable energy in China. His future plans and visions are relevant not only for China, but for the whole world.

On April 16, 2012 he gives a lecture on “Solar Energy – Reality and Vision for the Future of Mankind”. The event is organized by the Vienna University of Technology and the University of Vienna.
