Exploring “know how” behind the success!

One of the most success factors of Austrian companies is their world-leading innovation power. Many Austrian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are leading in technology innovation in the automotive industry. In order to learn the knowhow two days excursion to Austrian High tech companies and institution in Styria took place.

REMUS Innovation is a family owned and family led company with the focus on the development and production of sport exhausts for the automotive industry. The group’s core competencies lie on the development and production of sport exhaust systems for cars and motorcycles, on catalyst and on diesel particle filter technologies, on all sorts of metal forming and last but not least, on sound design. For the sound design the company has a slogan, like “Sound, Design, Power”. It tries to fulfill the requirements for creating sportive sounds. In parallel the company tries to create trends in sportive sounds of the motorcycles & cars and combine the emotion with the innovation. REMUS has an export rate of 95%, delivering their products in more than 60 countries.

As a premium supplier for the automotive industry the Magna Powertrain is developing, manufacturing and testing of powertrain systems and its components. The main focus of the company is the development of technologies and the production of products for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). During the tour through the job shops participants could see the flexible production systems of complete systems as well as individual components.

As the logo of the company indicates the five elements of powertrain e.g. engine, transmission, energy storage, controls, and electric motor, the core competences of AVL is the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines as well as instrumentation and test systems. During his presentation the Chief Technology Officer mentioned the company’s mission to provide the leading technology and superior service to customers for a world of clean and affordable mobility. After the presentation of the development in electrification and transmission the head of research and innovation gave a detailed insight of the basic principle and process of the innovation processes. During the tour participants could see the battery testing facility, motor and car testing facility, and other different test systems.

Virtual Vehicle is a research center with the focus on vehicle development and future vehicle concepts. With around 200 employees it collaborates with domestic and international partners from science and industry to connect numeric simulation with the experimental verification and to develop a comprehensive simulation.

The Frank Stronach Institute (FSI) is founded in 2004 as a joint venture of Magna International and Graz University of Technology. The participants could see the research activities of the institute, for example, for the vehicle safety the crash experiment facility and dummy calibration laboratory were presented.

The excursion gave participants comprehensive state of art information of world-wide successfully acting Austrian companies how innovation oriented companies are acting and how they should act to be successful in the most challenging industry.

The participants and the program management thank all companies for their hospitality and valuable information.
