The adventure lies ahead of you!

Welcome to the PMBA

PMBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation Class 2012-2014

On October 23, 2012 the Welcome Reception of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation class 2012-2014 and other specializations of the PMBA took place at the MOYA at Palais Schönborn.

The opening address was held by o.Univ.Prof. Bodo B.Schlegelmilch, Ph.D., D.Litt., Ph.D.(hon), Dean of the WU Executive Academy. He emphasized the importance of continuing education and lifelong learning citing Will Rogers who said that ’Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there’. Prof. Schlegelmilch also pointed out the value of an MBA program which among others can be seen through rankings such as by the FT, as well as by accreditations such as Amba, Equis or FIBAA which are vouchers for the quality of an educational program.
Finally, Prof. Schlegelmilch presented some numbers in order to give an impression of the group of students:  the participants of the PMBAs have an average age of 32.5, female students represent 33% and the 74 students have 22 nationalities. The diversity contributes to the learning from each other. This, as well as the network that comes along with the PMBA is a value far beyond the running of the PMBA.

Mag. Petra Pointinger, Head of Human Resources Austria at Raiffeisen Bank International AG pointed out the managerial and personal skills a managers needs and gave insights into the changes in the recruitment between 2004 and 2012. She stressed the importance of cross-functional skills as well as self-awareness. It is very important to know one’s blind spots and one can only learn and move ahead if one is aware of oneself.

Then Univ. Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke, the Academic Director of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation welcomed the audience to the ’adventurous MBA journey’ comparing it to the expedition to the South Pole by Sir Ernest Shackleton. This journey will be rewarded by new insights, new knowledge, and personal advancement and most likely, after the MBA the students will not be the same person anymore.

After the official part of the welcome reception students had a chance to get to know each other before heading off to the first module of their PMBA.

We wish all the students a good start in the program and lots of fun with their PMBA!
