On October 1, 2008 the Welcome Reception of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation class 2008 – 2010 and other specializations of the PMBA took place at the Palais Liechtenstein.

The ceremony was opened by o.Univ.Prof. Bodo B. Schlegelmilch, Ph.D., D.Litt., Dean of the WU Executive Academy. In his welcome speech he congratulated the students on their decision to choose an MBA Program that combines the expertise of two renowned universities and leads to an internationally recognized degree. Then he stressed the importance of life-long learning in a world facing tremendous changes in the business environment. Finally Prof. Schlegelmilch pointed out the networking aspects of an MBA Program and said that the start of such a program is also the beginning of a life-long relationship.

Dr. Werner Lanthaler, CFO Intercell AG and an MBA graduate himself, gave the students some good advice in his address. He emphasized the importance of team work and active participation in class - even if one doesn’t always realize the relevance of the subjects taught immediately. He also called upon the entrepreneurial spirit of the MBA participants and asked them not to shy away from the magnitude of their ideas. Dr. Lanthaler advised them to combine different worlds for innovation, to make use of the link to academia and research an MBA provides and to leave the path of linearity.

Also Univ.Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke, one of the Academic Directors of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation, referred to a similar topic in his introducing words. He compared the role and function of an entrepreneur to that of the Academic Director of an MBA Program. First both have a vision, then they need to make a plan how to develop the product and determine its features and finally they have to implement organizational know-how. In this regard he also stressed the importance of the support by the Program Managers in the daily work.

After that Matthias Schmid, who currently participates in an MBA Program, told the audience about his experience. He is convinced that an MBA Program broadens the horizon and strengthens the personality. MBA students benefit from the knowhow of their fellow students, identify new potential areas of interest and are open to new challenges.

After taking some class photos the networking at the buffet started and the students had the chance to get to know each other. The participants of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation class 2008 – 2010 are from Austria, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India and Switzerland.
