On September 18, 2009 the Graduation Ceremony of the second class of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation and two other PMBA specializations took place at the Palais Daun-Kinsky.

The graduates of class 2007 - 2009 with Prof. Hisrich, the Academic Directors, and the Program Managers

In his opening address Prof. Bodo B. Schlegelmilch, Ph.D., D.Litt., Dean of the WU Executive Academy, said that this was not only a special event to be celebrated but also an occasion for reflection. The graduates of the PMBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation had earned degrees from two reputable universities – TU Wien and WU Wien – that are among the best in their respective fields in Europe. He added that the graduation was not just the completion of an MBA Program but also a transition to a lifelong partnership of mutual support between the graduates and the universities.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Robert D. Hisrich, Ph.D., Garvin Professor of Global Entrepreneurship and Director, Walker Center for Global Entrepreneurship, Thunderbird School of Global Management. He focused his speech on the qualities that graduates nowadays need to succeed and mentioned the following: global thinking, the ability to recognize opportunities, being visionary and passionate, the ability to work in teams, ethical behavior, persistence under adverse circumstances, calculated risk taking and sensitivity to the environment. He closed his speech by reassuring the alumni that it had been a pleasure to teach them and an honor to celebrate with them and that he was sure that they would all be successful.

Then the Academic Directors Univ.Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and Univ.Prof. Dr. Sabine T. Köszegi presented the graduates of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation class 2007 – 2009 with the MBA diplomas. We congratulate:

After the conferment of the MBA diplomas Prof. Hisrich honored the best faculty members of each specialization. The Teaching Award for Excellency for the PMBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation was awarded to Univ.Prof. Dr. Björn Ambos of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

DI Andreas Stingl delivered the valedictory on behalf of the E&I alumni and looked back on two tough years. But he added that they had also really enjoyed the time because of the great team. Even with his more than 25 years of work experience he had learned a lot in the MBA Program and was also able to implement the knowledge in his daily business. The MBA Program had helped him to educate his gut feeling and he is now able to take decisions on a more profound foundation. Finally Andreas Stingl thanked the Academic Directors, the Program Managers – and especially the families of the graduates – for their support and understanding during the last two years.

In her closing remarks on behalf of the Academic Directors ao.Univ.Prof. Dr. Barbara Stöttinger, Academic Director of the PMBA Marketing & Sales, also stressed the importance of a strong alumni network. For the reputation of a school the support of its graduates is vital. So she invited them to keep in touch and to contribute to the managerial relevance of the MBA Programs.

After the closing of the official ceremony the graduates celebrated with their families and friends and the guests of honor. We wish them all the very best!
