Technicians in M&A business

The Vienna University of Technology and the University of Vienna prepare technicians for the challenges of the growing market of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A).

Mergers & Acquisitions – challenges for technicians
According to Forbes, 2011 will be the year of M&A. Capacity adjustments, strategies of valuation and globalization lead to more M&A transactions, thus increasing the demands on M&A managers. This also turns the stakeholders’ attention to the importance of technicians for a successful M&A project.
It became evident that technical expertise in the advisory board is necessary for a successful M&A transaction. This is not only true for the board of management, but can be also applied to the operative level. So the outcome of M&A projects in technology-inspired acquisitions depends directly on the quality of the technology due diligence. But technical know-how is also required during both the successful integration of new and the merger of existing systems within the post-merger integration.
Furthermore, it is expected that the boom of technology motivated M&A transactions observed in 2011 will continue in the future. Young high-tech start-ups for example are – due to their R&D departments – a hot target.

Being ready for complex M&A transactions
To be well prepared for the challenges of a complex M&A process and to take on responsibility in M&A projects, it is necessary to have both economic and legal know-how as well as analytical tools. An aspect which has been neglected in the curricula of technical studies so far.
This context has inspired the Vienna University of Technology and the University of Vienna to cooperate in the field of further education. By attending the Executive MBA Mergers & Acquisitions alumni of scientific studies receive the necessary know-how to make their expedient technical contribution to decision processes and to play a leading role in M&A projects.
