Evening lecture about membrane structures

On Monday, November 8, 210 the Vienna University of Technology organized an evening lecture on the occasion of the start of the first MEng “Membrane Lightweight Structures”.

A great number of students and professors attended the lecture by Martin Glass of gmp (Gerkan Marg und Partner) from Berlin about the use of tensile structures for roof constructions of football stadiums.
gmp was founded in 1965 and has over 500 employees in 10 offices throughout the world. Their working approach is to take responsibility for a project starting from the design idea to its realization but also for the interior design. The office is internationally known for projects such as the Olympic Stadium Berlin or the Cape Town Stadium in South Africa.
Martin Glass is director of gmp Berlin and is responsible for the design and development of world class sports facilities. During his lecture, he presented several fascinating projects in the field of lightweight structure such as roof constructions for stadiums in South Africa, Brazil, Ukraine or Usbekistan and shared his vast experience with the audience.
