Another successful study trip of MSc ETIA students to Linz and Munich

New site visit: Andritz Hydro AG in Linz

From November 8 to 9, 2012 the third class of MSc ETIA students went on a study trip to Linz and Munich. The first day was dedicated to visiting two sites in Linz whereas the program of the second day in Munich was organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

On the way to Munich the participants stopped for a visit of VOEST Alpine Linz. The VOEST bus took the group to the blast furnace to see the procedure of tapping live: 1400 celsius degree hot red-gold iron is really impressive, followed by a tour through „steel world“ with on overview on the process of steel production.

At Andritz Hydro AG in Linz one research engineer gave a presentation of their test rig operations of Kaplan and Francis turbines. The company has 170 years experience in hydroturbines and is world market leader.

The second day at Munich started early with a visit of MTU Aero Engines near Dachau. It is Germany's leading engine manufacturer. After interesting presentations numerous engines could be seen at close range withhin the museum and during the plant tour at different stages of production.

Afterwards a reception at the Residence of the Austrian consulate in Munich took place with a warm welcome by general consul Dr. Pech, Prof. Loibl (DA Vienna) and Prof. Puxbaum (TU Vienna). During lunch students could ask detailed questions to the former Manager of MTH Aero Engines.
