Have you ever been on top of a wind turbine? Or inside a biomass district heating plant?

As part of the ETIA Master programme with its integrated practical focus, students had the opportunity to take part in such a unique experience. On March 25th an interesting excursion took place to the Energiepark in Bruck an der Leitha. In a short interview one student describes his experience:

What kind of experience was it for you to be on the top of the wind turbine?

Patrick T.: Being on top of the wind turbine was really scary in the beginning, because the whole tower oscillates due to the spinning of the rotor blades which made it quite difficult to climb up the stairs to the top of the viewing plattform. But after hearing an explanation on the technical function and security aspects I felt much more comfortable and focusing on the tour guide's words distracted me from being nervous.

How was the tour in the biomass district heating plant?

Patrick T.: Actually, it was really interesting as this plant was planned by one of our lecturers, Dr. Ortner, and now we were given a real opportunity to link the process flow sheets and technical diagrams of his lectures to the real facility. It is much easier to understand the theoretical knowledge after you see it in practice - things like the automated hydraulic fire box, the boiler, heat exchanger, distribution pipes, etc.
