All MBA programs at TU Vienna re-accredited by the FIBAA

All four MBA programs offered by the Continuing Education Center at TU Vienna have received the well-respected seal of quality for a further seven years. This means that the high quality of the postgraduate programs at TU Vienna has again been confirmed by an international accreditation body.

Which MBA program is best suited to my needs, internationally recognized and will progress me in my career? This question is becoming more and more difficult to answer in view of the increasing complexity of the MBA market. For those interested, it is almost impossible to assess the quality of the individual providers and to compare the programs with one another. Internationally recognized seals of quality therefore provide a clear message and represent an important aid when selecting the best postgraduate continuing education program. For this reason, the Continuing Education Center (CEC) at TU Vienna decided back in 2008 to have all its MBA programs accredited by FIBAA (www.fibaa.de).

The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) is one of the most important international bodies involved with the quality assurance of universities and has made a name for itself in German-speaking areas in particular with the accreditation of MBA programs. Its aim is to promote transparency, quality, internationality and comparability in university education. In addition to compliance with standards in terms of the contents and structural design of courses, the FIBAA pays particular attention to the promotion of employability. The assessment is based on national and international standards (European MBA guidelines, European qualification framework for lifelong learning etc.), and current developments in the education field and in the labor market are taken into consideration as well.

Programs accredited by the FIBAA have to go through a comprehensive inspection process. Numerous aspects such as positioning, internationality, structure, content, didactic concept, lecturers, course management and quality assurance undergo a thorough examination. As part of a two-day on-site assessment, lecturers, students and alumni are questioned alongside an assessment of the Academic Directors, Program Managers, and CEC management. The FIBAA Accreditation Commission was completely convinced of the quality of the MBA programs and in its July meeting decided to re-accredit the following MBA programs for the maximum possible duration of seven years:
• General Management MBA (http://gm-mba.tuwien.ac.at/) in cooperation with the Danube University Krems
• Professional MBA Automotive Industry (http://automotive.tuwien.ac.at/) in cooperation with STU Bratislava
• Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation (http://www.tu-wu-innovation.at/) in cooperation with Vienna University of Economics and Business
• Professional MBA Facility Management (http://fm.tuwien.ac.at/)

Happily, the quality requirements were even exceeded in numerous aspects. The assessors particularly praised the integration of theory and practice as well as the provision of vocational skills (employability). The practical experience of the lecturers and the mentoring of the students by the Academic Directors and the Program Management teams were also pointed out. The assessors were also impressed by the students and alumni they spoke to.

"The Vienna University of Technology pursues high quality goals in its postgraduate teaching as well. The successful re-accreditation with no stipulations confirms that our MBA programs fulfill the most stringent international standards and excel in terms of their practical applicability" enthuses Professor Adalbert Prechtl, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.

The Continuing Education Center at TU Vienna offers an extensive range of practical postgraduate programs. They range from MBA, MEng and MSc programs to university courses and special seminars. Detailed information regarding the further education programs offered at CEC can be found under http://cec.tuwien.ac.at/home/EN/. The next round of MBA programs commences in October 2013.
