Career Spotlight: Thomas Hrabal

Today in conversation with Thomas Hrabal, MSc (Hrabal Architektur ZT GmbH) Alumnus Class 1997-98

Describe your current position and what led you to your job
With the postgraduate MSc program in Engineering Management I could realize my long-standing aspiration to be active in the self-employed construction sector: HRABAL ARCHITEKTUR ZT GmbH.
What made you chose the MSc Program Engineering Management?
The technical orientation, the interdisciplinarity and the international relations part of the program are truly unique in Europe and even globally. I found it especially important to gain knowledge in the field of academic know-how in project management and learn to speak the "language" of technical oriented people.

Why did you decide to participate in this program?
It seemed to perfectly be in line with my needs.
Can you describe the program in three sentences?
International lecturers - pragmatic approach - good balance of business and engineering know-how.
The faculty was aware of the different backgrounds of the students and explained complex topics in an understandable manner. We had International Lecturers with a pragmatic approach and a good balance of business and engineering know-how.

On what topics did the Master program put the focus on?

Business and engineering topics
What did you expect from the program? Have your expectations been met?
International state-of-the art input to the above mentioned topics
In most instances, yes

How did the master program influence your professional life? 
Immediately after the studies I started working as an architect at Do&Co in NYC, where I could use the full spectrum of my new education. Later I made my doctorate and I started to lecture part-time in Prishtina.

Did your studies enable you to develop professionally?


Do you have any advice for our future students?
Don’t focus on the increase of your salary. Focus on the increase of your knowledge and the personal experience

Can you apply your knowledge on an international level?

Did the program enhance your international career or did it open the door to an international career?
Yes, as a lecturer in Kosovo

What career plans do you have for the next 3-5 years?
Increasing Stability
