50 Years Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) – the CEC congratulats!


MSc Econimics – Cooperation partner IHS celebrated its 50th Anniversary


The Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna, celebrated on 08.May 2014 in a ceremony at the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) its 50th anniversary with numerous guests from science, politics and business, and in the presence of many long-time employees and almuni of the IHS. Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer, who himself was for 20 years a member of the IHS Board of Trustees, recalled the beginnings and the importance of the IHS for the Austrian research landscape and congratulated the IHS wholeheartedly to its 50th birthday. President Fischer: "With its three disciplines economics, sociology and political science, it is the IHS possible to analyze the major social issues from different perspectives and discuss.

The welcome was made by Univ.-Prof.Dr. Christian Keuschnigg, director of IHS and Univ.-Prof.Dr. Heinrich Neisser, president of the board of trustees and a Message from Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer.

The keynote speeches were given by Professor em.Dr. Helga Nowotny, PhD., Board member of the Council ERA Forum Austria and Prof. Mark Schankeman, Professor in Economics at the LSE London School of Economics.


The Master of Science Economics is a joint program of the Vienna University of Technology and the Institute for Advanced Studies. This postgraduate program is a rigorous, quantitative education and equips graduates with the advanced tools to undertake a research career in economics. Consistent with this goal, the MSc Economics is aimed at highly talented individuals, who have an outstanding academic record during their previous university studies.
It requires the full-time concentration of students for the entire two year period. Graduates are equipped to succeed in an ever more competitive environment. The curriculum emphasizes analytic competence, economic intuition and solid empirical work.
