Do not miss the 1st ETIA Talks panel discussion of this academic year on “Nuclear Technology in Agriculture?”


ETIAtalks, an initiative of the students of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology, provides a platform for public discussion and learning.

The opening panel discussion of this year’s series on “Sustainable Agriculture” will take place on 2 December 2014, at 18:30h in the Festsaal of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. For the detailed program please click HERE.

This panel discussion aims to debate and evaluate the benefits, the challenges and the threats of food irradiation in the Western world as well as in developing countries. With the hope that we will be able to highlight current and potential future developments in this area of nuclear irradiation with regard to food security.

The speakers are:
Dr. Carl Blackburn (Joint FAO / IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, IAEA)
Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Wolfgang Pirklhuber (Spokesperson of the Green Group, Austrian Parliament)
DI Guenther Rohrer (Head of the Division for Plant Products, Chamber of Agriculture of Austria)
Dr. Friederike Strebl (Engineer in radiation protection at Seibersdorf Labor GmbH)

The talk will be moderated by:
Univ.-Prof. DI Dr.techn. Franz Josef Maringer (Professor and scientist for radioecology and radiation protection at the BOKU and TU)


The panel discussion will involve an interactive Q&A.
