10th program start of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation


Cooperation between TU Wien and WU Wien is a success story in postgraduate education

The Technische Universität Wien (TUW) and the WU Wien - the largest Austrian universities in their respective fields – have successfully been offering a joint MBA program since October 2006: the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation. The universities represent the link between technological excellence and business competence.
The year 2015 marks a very special occasion: the MBA program will start for the 10th time!

The MBA aims at bringing together business & technology: something that – in contrary to the USA – is still not very common in Europe. However, an innovation is always both: a good idea as well as bringing the idea to the market. The combination of this technological excellence and business competence makes the success of this program. The accredditions of the MBA program are also proof of the quality of the prorgam: it is accredited by FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) and AMBA (Association of MBAs). WU itself is accredited by EQUIS.

The Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation is a part-time program taught in English and takes 18 months. It comprises of three parts: First, participants gain profound insight into core business subjects that are then complemented by specific knowledge in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation. Finally, the students have to conduct a practice-oriented master's thesis. The courses are very interactive and practice-oriented and are complemented by a field study to the Boston area (USA) – home of the leading universities in innovation & entrepreneurship.
Up until now, the MBA program counts more than 160 students and alumni from 28 countries in Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia.

Innovations as driving force of the economy
The Austrian economist Prof. Joseph Schumpeter was the first to recognize the importance of “creative destruction” as a fundamental linchpin of the economy.
"Innovation means turning a creative new idea into a product or service that succeeds in the market. Therefore, successful innovation management requires technological excellence combined with profound business knowledge and entrepreneurial thinking. In our knowledge-based society, this combination is key to sustainable economic development." says Univ.Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke, Academic Director of the MBA program at WU. For the Academic Director at TU Wien, Univ.Prof. Dr. Sabine T. Köszegi, "Innovations are not just the rare, trailblazing "breakthroughs”. Value is also generated for companies by creative product improvements, altered processes, new markets and more intelligent organization styles. However, anyone determining the rule of the game as an innovator not only generates wealth and social benefits but may also achieve a temporary monopoly benefit."
Many times the problem is innovation management rather than having a creative idea.

MBA imparts entrepreneurial thought and action
That is exactly the aim of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation: communicating the skills and techniques behind entrepreneurial thought and action, imparting expertise and thought processes which enable managers and entrepreneurs to make crucial decisions and compete successfully. The faculty comprises renowned professors from WU and TUW as well as well as experts from practice. Professors of renowned international universities such as Ècole Politechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Pennsylvania State University, RWTH Aachen, Kent State University or TU Munich add to the internationality of the program.

Target group: innovators
The MBA program is primarily targeted towards those individuals who operate at the interface between technology and business, or who wish to do so in the future. This particularly includes (potential) executives, who have positioned themselves as innovation leaders, aspiring and current entrepreneurs with a technological background, engineers, scientists and specialists in product marketing or product controlling with managerial experience, as well as high-potentials aiming at preparing themselves for an innovation-orientated managerial function.
