MSc Program Insights - Visit of the Nanotechnology Lab. of the “Department for Interchangeable Manufacturing and Industrial Metrology” TU Wien

For us as “Newcomers” in the MSc Engineering Management program and according to the lecture of Prof. Durakbasa a very dangerous visit because Nanotechnology is the science and application of creating objects on a level smaller than 100 nanometers or 0,0000001 meters.
First we entered a stately control cabinet in the basement floor to the sluicegate of the Nanotechnology laboratory. This “room-in-room” concept, passive vibration isolated from the environment and equipped with an intelligent climate chamber apparatus maintains a mean temperature of 20° C ± 0, 1° C (class A to VDI/VDE 2627) at 45% ± 5 relative humidity. To achieve highest accuracy preventive structural measures have been enclosed. The concrete slab has been inserted decoupled on a layer of sand and corkboard minimizing building oscillation distortion onto measurement devices. 99.97 % of all particles larger than 0.3
