ETIA Alumna successfully finished PhD studies at TU Wien

In August 2016 another PhD Defense successfully took place, this time at TU Wien.

We congratulate Dr. tech. Andrea Winterstetter, MSc, Alumna ETIA04, class 2010-2012 reporting  about her admission at TU Wien as follows:

„I hold a BA degree in “International Cultural and Business Studies” from the University of Passau (Germany) and a MSc in “Environmental Technology and International Affairs” from TU Wien and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

After my graduation I completed a traineeship with a solar power company in Langfang, China, before starting to work as a project assistant within the Christian Doppler Laboratory for “Anthropogenic Resources” at the Institute for Water Quality, Resource and Waste Management at TU Wien.

In order to be admitted as a PhD student at TU Wien, I had to complete 30 ECTS (prescribed by the head of the institute and the academic dean) in addition to the regular 18 ECTS, which I chose freely, but still related to my project. Working at the institute and the assistance and supervision of my thesis were just great!“

In August 2016, Andrea successfully defended her PhD thesis “Mines of Tomorrow – Evaluating and Classifying Anthropogenic Resources: A New Methodology” supervised by Prof. Johann Fellner (TU Wien) and Prof. Joakim Krook (Linköpings Universitet, Sweden).

Currently she is still working at TU Wien as a post doctorate researcher. Her main fields of interests are sustainable resource and waste management strategies in a regional and global context.

Andrea is an active reviewer for the Journal of Cleaner Production and the Journal of Waste Management. In addition, she is a founding member of, and actively involved with the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) Young Professionals Group.
