Energiepark Bruck hosts new students of class 2016-2018

Biogas plant in Bruck/Leitha

MSc „Renewable Energy Sytems“ Class 2016-2018

(by Ralf Roggenbauer)

From the 9th to the 14th of January 2017 the students of class 2016-2018 were hosted by Energiepark Bruck/Leitha for the first time. The week’s lectures dealt with the energetic use of biomass. The different lecturers were both from universities and private companies. Among them was Professor Anton Friedl from TU Wien or Dr. Mario Ortner from the ic-consultancy group in Vienna for example.

Besides interesting lectures the students could experience a technical tour of Energiepark Bruck’s woodchip-fired district heating plant and its biogas plant fed with organic by-products from the food industry. This was the first contact with renewable energy plants for many of the new students. Despite the interesting smells that can be experienced at a biogas plant, the group was quite enthusiastic.
Social activities included celebrating local food and wines at the Wiesböck family winery in Wildungsmauer next to Bruck. Everyone could enjoy a nice “heurigen-style” dinner with homemade cold-cuts and bread.

All things considered, the students could gain a good understanding of the use of biomass as a renewable source of energy and could also for the first time during their course visit fully operational renewable energy plants. Such close-up front experiences paired with the theoretical content of the lectures will prepare them to view renewable energy projects with an enquiring eye.

Next program start: November 02, 2017
