A Delegation from Turkmenistan and the OSCE visits Energiepark Bruck/Leitha

On May 10, 2017 a delegation from Turkmenistan and the OSCE visited our partner Energiepark Bruck/Leitha. Based on the wish of its president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Turkenistan is planning to take the first steps into the direction of Renewable Energies. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was re-elected on February 12, 2017 for another seven years with 97.7% of the votes.

Turkmenistan has significant oil and natural gas deposits. 44.5 billion tons of oilequivalent are proven. But estimates assume that there could be more than 250 billion tons. In addition to that, Turkmenistan holds the world’s largest natural gas field with recoverable reserves from 4 to 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas (that corresponds to 140 to 495 Tcf).
Turkmenistan exports oil and gas through Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Although Turkmenistan is currently building another large gas power plant with an output of around 1.500 MW (completion is planned for 2018), it is working on a roadmap to implement energy supply from renewable energy sources (mostly photovoltaic and wind power).

The OSCE Delegation as well as the delegation from the University of Technology consulted the Energiepark Bruck/Leitha because of the Energiepark’s specialized knowledge in the planning and implementing of regional energy concepts and the experience in the construction of decentralized plants of more than 20 years as well as  because of the MSc-Program Renewable Energy Systems.
The participants discussed the possibilities for supporting Turkmenistan and the potential participation of Turkmen engineers in the MSc Program in an intensive exchange process. Site visits to wind power and natural gas power plants as well as to Ecoduna were also part of the visit. Afterwards, the Turkmen colleagues returned to Vienna to participate in the “International Energy Week”.

The MSc Renewable Energy Systems is offered by TU Wien in cooperation with Energiepark Bruck/Leitha and will start for the 14th time.

Next program start: November 02, 2017
Application deadline: June 30, 2017
