Small Hydro Power Day – Nature meets Technology

June 9 is all about small hydro power in Austria. On this occasion, numerous operators open their small hydro power plants and visitors get insights into the exciting world of sustainable energy production. Historic engine rooms, impressive fortifications and innovative buildings – Austria’s small hydro power presents itself in all its diversity.

More than 3,000 small hydro power plants produce 10% of the Austrian electricity which makes Austria the hydro power country no. 1. And for that reason, small hydro power is a very important topic in the MSc Renewable Energy Systems. For four days, students work intensively on this issue. Contents extend from planning, technical calculations to implementation and quality assurance. After this demanding module, our students are able to plan, implement and manage a small hydro power plant.

But the MSc Renewable Energy System doesn’t stop at Austria’s borders. A separate block deals with marine power, its different types and applications to ensure an international perspective and to prepare our alumni for the international market.
