MSc Renewable Energy Systems (Class 2016-2019) on field trip to the Freudenau powerplant
As an exciting conclusion before the summer break the MSc Renewable Energy Systems visited the Freudenau power plant as part of their module on small hydro power. On this field trip the students deepend their theoretical knowledge with practical insights.

The Freudenau power plant on the Danube has been generating clean electricity from hydropower since 1998 and is the youngest power plant on the Danube. It provides enough electricity for 280.000 households.

Our students learned about the history of hydropower and of this power plant in the information centre with its own cinema, various exhibition objects and a large model of the power plant. The highlight of the field trip was the subsequent tour through the power plant, where our students could see the mighty machines up close and explored the power plant down to 30 metres below the water's surface.
