Windpark Opening Hof/Seibersdorf – a successful event for windpower

With the recently opened windparks in Hof and Seibersdorf, both municipalities became part of the windpower scene in Austria. It is the first time, that an Austrian windpark project was substancially financed through means of the European Investment Bank/European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI). It is the first realised project in Austria of the so called “Juncker Plan”.

These two municipalities now contribute to a sustainable energy future in Austria – a good reason to celebrate this fact. A colourful program with music and of course the visiting of the new windmills were the reason for the great atmosphere and happy faces of over 500 visitors.

Both projects open up new dimensions because the 12 windmills produce green electricity for 27.000 households per year. The innovation capacity of regional actors – like Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, our partner in the MSc Renewable Energy Systems – is a big factor in this success story.

  • Facts: Windpark Seibersdorf
    7 wind mills Enercon E-115
    Gross performance: 21 MW
Estimated annual output: 60 Mio kWh/year
  • Facts: Windpark Hof
    5 wind mills Enercon E-115
    Gross performance: 15 MW
Estimated annual output: 40 Mio kWh/year

Wind power is one of the three core modules of the MSc Renewable Energy Systems. The participants not only learn about the technical side, but also earn management skills to plan, develop and implement wind power projects. But also the international perspective is important. A whole lecture focusses on the potential of offshore windparks in the North and Baltic Sea.
