Work in progress: 32 Academic Industrial Engineers

The participants (Class 2016-2018) at Linz.

One year ago, 32 students started the part-time certified program “Industrial Engineering” to study the required know-how to serve as links between technicians and management.

The 18 participants in Linz and 14 participants in Dornbirn for the 8th intake of the program, which is offered as part of an education cooperation of TU Wien and WIFI, are from different professional backgrounds but share a common goal: to successfully tackle the upcoming challenges in production engineering. Together they learn how to employ networked thinking and act flexibly in product development, production planning and production.

In the past two semesters our students were able to acquire different capabilities: on the one hand, they were able to deepen their concept knowledge in subjects like process analysis and modelling and learned how to efficiently lead human beings and projects using tools such as project management and management control. At the same time, they expanded their theoretical knowledge in product development and production management and discovered how to optimize an organization and implement new technologies, for example using techniques of quality management.

The third semester provides exciting lectures to deepen their knowledge in these broad core areas and students start to work on a huge milestone in their path to become Academic Industrial Engineers: their final paper of academic quality covering a real project, which they will move on to present at their final exam in June.

All the best to our students, we look forward to exciting projects!
