Review on the 10th IFM Congress at the TU Wien



Since 2008 Prof. Alexander Redlein, Academic Director of the Professional MBA Facility Management Program has been organized the International Facility Management (IFM) Congress. The 10th IFM Congress took place on November 16. & 17, 2017 at the TU Wien. Due to the high scientific level the congress is one of the leading conventions in Facility Management in Europe.

The 10th IFM Congress dealt with the current topics like, news ways of working, digitalization, IoT, workplace management and optimization of operation. Also the new Austrian bidding regulations are presented.As the keynotes the General Manager of ASFINAG AG, Dr. Klaus Schierhackl presented how the ASFINAG supports the innovation and integrates their employees with new office environment. Mr. Andreas Rohregger GE Global Property and Mrs. Turnbull talk how new image and the office environment help the change management of the company. Further Dr. Bernhard Huppmann, Partner Deloitte GmbH explained how the company supports the optimal balance between personal workplace and the location of the company. At the podium discussion DI Wolfgang Gleissner, BIG (AUT), DI Claus Stadler, UBM Development AG (AUT) and Bernd Hanke, Deutsche Bahn DB Station & Service AG discussed about the trends of the digitalization and current applications of the German Railway Station Service. DI Wolfgang Gleissner and DI Claus Stadler are two of advisory members of board of the Professional MBA Facility Management Program. During the breaks the participants can see the news trends and technology of building automation, IoT and sensors at the booth of the exhibitors. Dr. Michael Fruhmann presented the new Austrian bidding regulations and the trends of E-Bidding system. Other topics at the congress were the influence of the IFRS 16 Standard on the lease decisions and how economics development influences the real estate and FM market. Furthermore the future trends like Co-Working and Well-Being were extensively discussed. The gala dinner took place in the newly built BIG Building. Also a guided tour through the “Theater an der Josefsadt” brings participants deep insights of the processes in a theater.

Participants and graduates of the Professional MBA Facility Management joined the congress and could get in touch with the newst trends in the Facility Management. 

The next IFM Congress will prospectively take place in November 2018 at the TU Wien.
