Excursion to AIT - MSc Program Engineering Management

On June 19, 2018 we had the great opportunity to visit the facilities of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Vienna.

This excursion was a great opportunity for us, to explore and understand some of the actual research and testing fields as well for the state-of-the art technologies as also for innovative concepts that are in the phase of standardization.

We took an up-close look at three units of AIT: Center for Energy. The Smart Electricity Systems and Technologies (SMARTest)laboratory, the photovoltaics facility and the ENERGYbase building.
The SMARTest laboratory provides a testing and R&D infrastructure for complex analyses and performance tests on smart grid components. In the photovoltaics testing facility we could see different set-ups that can simulate solar- and environmental realistic situations for efficient testing of industrial photovoltaic panels.

At ENERGYbase we experienced and touched a fully functional building of the future, that comprises multiple concepts and approaches which can be implemented to achieve a low- or even a zero-energy building.

At AIT we found an exemplary organization where competent managers showed us how they manage the research work along with manufacturing and business, so that the achieved engineering management is highly efficient.
